Welcome to LA, Mr. Beckham...

WSJ Premium Uncut

That's right. My favorite soccer superstar, David Beckham, 31, is going to leave the Spanish club Real Madrid end of this season and has signed a deal with Los Angeles Galaxy and will start playing in the U.S Major League Soccer from August this year.

David joined Reall Madrid after a highly successful season with Manchester United where he won 6 league titles, 2 FA cups and the Champions League title. But Real Madrid was just not happening, with 6 different coaches and 3 club Presidents during David's stay there.

After his stepping down as captain of England at the end of the last World Cup, I was worried about his soccer future, as Real Madrid was just not the place. So, I think this would be a good move. In any case, British reports have suggested that the contract was for around $250 M.

Good move? How exactly???

If you refer to the fact that he is going to earn an astronomical amount, then yes. Good move! Also, he is going to be right where he wants to be. Hollywood. So, yeah, good move!

As for glory, the days are long gone. This was an admission that his serious playing career is over.

Was waiting to hear from you on that, actually. I feel it is a good move for Beckham because Real Madrid is no longer the hottest clubs to be in, and Beckham isin't in the limelight of his career now, as you say too...
So, from his personal standpoint, it is a good time to come out of professional European soccer...rather than wait till you die out and get hammered as Tendulkar is getting right now. :)

Heard Sachin is going to open mostly, for WC? What's happening man? But that disappointment is kind of subdued by the fact that Ganguly is among the most probables to open alongside....or first, that Ganduly has made it into the ODI squad again!
